How to be intentional about your self-care.

Updated: May 6

Self-care is the practice of discovering and engaging in activities that bring you joy. It's about choosing to be present and one with yourself and being willing to embrace who you are and what you love without judging yourself. Finding time to love on yourself is self-care in its purest form. Many of us may find it difficult to do so because we assume that self-care must be a time-consuming, difficult, and exhausting activity that we must avoid at all costs. It certainly isn't the case. To be honest, the process can start by thinking about what gives you joy in life. What are your favorite things to do, what amuses you, and what makes you smile? After you've come up with a concept, you may start planning stages and goals to help you realize it

1. Participation, not perfection, is the goal:

Self-care is about loving yourself, so do it with love and care. This isn't a marathon, but rather a race in which you can do whatever you want. Accelerate as necessary, or slow down if needed.

2. Make connections with others:

Look for persons who share your aims and interests and create opportunities to connect with them. Connecting with good people and like-minded individuals will help you stay motivated and on a happy path that will benefit your overall health.

3. Schedule in time for self-care.

If you want to be more successful with your self-care practice, you must schedule it. Nothing worth accomplishing isn't worth the time it takes to do it. It doesn't matter if it's 5-10 minutes a day or one day a week; the point is that you should continually do it. And do it without interruptions.

4. Only do things you enjoy:

Self-care has nothing to do with doing things only for the sake of doing them or doing things that serve no purpose. Always strive to create and participate in activities that will bring you joy in your life. After all, self-care is about investing in yourself and doing things that encourage and inspire you. Anything that does not offer you joy or serves, you should be eliminated.

5. Be in the moment:

With everything in this world going at light speed and everyone wanting things done as quickly as possible, it's vital to relish the moment and be present when it comes to your personal self-care. There's no need to hurry. It's all about treating your body, mind, and spirit with respect. Take your time, enjoy yourself, be present, and lavish love on yourself for as long as you want.
